Vision and Dental coverage letter
I received a letter from GM stating that UAW Retirees and Surviving Spouses can elect to continue Dental and Vision coverage under GM through Cobra and self pay, which can be taken out of our pension check. This letter is different than the previous offer made to us by UAW and Delta Dental in September. The rates are lower and the letter states it will be retroactive back to when we lost our coverage in July, but we will be billed only from December 1 of 2009. The letter states we have until February of 2010 to decide to take it or not. It also states that the Traditional Dental Plan is the only option but does not give percentages of coverage and limits. Has anyone that received this letter checked into it?

RE: Vision and Dental coverage letter
there was a meeting on Wed, November 25 at the 599 union hall regarding this - we are taking the vision - but not the dental. dental is too much.

i would also like to say that i felt the meeting was poorly run - someone had knowledge of that letter before we received it and attempted to make copies - but there were no where enough to go around. nor did they wait for us to get copies before discussing them - so most of the time they were talking and we had no clue what they were talking about.

i also felt sorry for the man from delta who did his best to present an option for us - but was blindsided by the cobra plan. he was not able to present anything cheaper than cobra - but he still tried.

poor planning seems to me - especially the day before Thanksgiving.

RE: Vision and Dental coverage letter
we were told at the meeting that this is the same exact coverage we had under GM prior to July 1. we are just paying for it under cobra. Benefits should be able to verify that. I have had extremely bad luck thru the years getting someone in benfits to pick up the phone.

RE: Vision and Dental coverage letter
I received a letter from my dentist today saying it would be the same coverage as we had before it was dropped. He did not say what the limits where or if they where the same.
