Alabama is a right to work state
NOTE:
Alabama is also home to the largest industrial growth corridor in the nation, including the surrounding states of Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia. Most of this growth is due to Alabama's rapidly expanding automotive manufacturing industry. In Alabama alone since 1993, it has generated more than 67,800 new jobs. Alabama currently ranks 2nd in the nation behind Detroit in automobile output. With recent expansions at sites in Alabama, by early 2009 the state will surpass Detroit and become the largest builder of automobiles in North America.

And how many Tax Breaks Fed and State where given to get them plants
I think Ron Gettelfinger held his own yesterday in what at times was just plain disrespectful and rude. There are some members on the panel that will never vote to okay the loan. These same people gave 700 billion to the banks with No Rules and did not hesitate.

this is interesting -

Earlier this month, Alabama's other senator, Republican Jeff Sessions, talked to Bloomberg Television about the crisis facing the U.S. auto industry.

"We have a very large and vibrant automobile sector in Alabama," he said. "I don't feel like this is the end of the world."

On Wednesday, Bachus told the CEOs of Detroit's Big Three that he and his constituents do not believe in government handouts.

"We believe in fair competition and free markets," he said. "Markets can be unforgiving and they can be hard. But they are very good at showing business the path to long-term success."

The apparent contradiction was not lost on UAW President Ron Gettelfinger, who blasted that state's congressional delegation during a press conference in Detroit Thursday.

"Alabama paid $175,000 per employee to create those jobs there," he said. "It just seems odd to us that we can help the financial institutions in this country -- that we can offer incentives to our competitors to come here and compete against us -- but at the same time we're willing to walk away from an industry that is the backbone of our economy."

RE: loan hearings
Every Foreign Auto Maker was given tax money to come hear. Yes even we paid for them to come and build there plants in the south. So I guess that is our fault also. He's got a tough job but if anyone can do it Ron Gettelfinger can.

RE: loan hearings
Funny how Wallstreet, which is really just a gambling with other peoples money firm.
(heck just take your money to Vegas, least it wont cost jobs, and create a race to the bottom)
and the finance firms-banking(which all three caused this mess with their lies-cooking books, inside deals, etc.) Can get a BAILOUT (no pay back- pretty much no questions asked)

http://www.harpercollins.com/book/index....0061465567

But legit companies have to be grilled to get a needed bridge LOAN (pay back with interest)to help weather this mess.

Its time to shall we say "TAKE OUT THE TRASH" and get this country back on track.

8. pension protection czar
10. fair wage czar
11. social security (make sure its there) czar
12. Insurance czar

RE: loan hearings
and i think i read that this "czar" will have the authority to put the auto companies into bankruptcy. lotta power for one person - if that is correct.

the people of the US sure do seem to hate those auto workers.

what a sad state of affairs.
